Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful, rust free, two California owner example of the timelessly sophisticated and elegant Mercedes-Benz 280SE Cabriolet (W111). Finished in an understated rare and correct Beige Grey (beigegrau DB181 H) over black leather, the car set and maintains the benchmark for luxury four seat convertibles. In my opinion, the excess of a Corniche makes this much more desirable and I can’t think of another car that is all at once so graciously tasteful while opulently exclusive. That fact, coupled with relatively low production numbers has made W111 Cabriolets significant investment grade collector cars with consummately high sales prices. That said, this car will be sold reasonably and represents an excellent opportunity for both the weekend driver enthusiast and the serious collector.

As the pictures illustrate, the car is an absolute head-turner, its finish in excellent condition, marred only by the most insignificant of imperfections, none of which appear in any of the pictures. The panel fit is great and the car shows no evidence of accidents. The chrome is in great shape, its only flaws being mild patina on a few of the accent pieces and two very soft dings in the front bumper. again, none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures. The soft top has no tears or wear marks and the wheels and hubs are in very good condition and wrapped in white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread. The interior is equally clean. The leather seats are in excellent original condition, free of tears, cracking or significant wear. The interior panels and dash are flawless and the original carpets present nicely. The dash wood is in fantastic shape, maintaining fantastic luster throughout, the tonneau cover is like new and the car comes with books and manuals.

Mechanically the car is also excellent, starting easily without any smoke or hesitation, its matching numbers inline six engine pulling strongly and smoothly through all of the gears. The car has always been properly maintained and garaged and was never exposed to the elements. As such, the original undercarriage is fantastic, free of rust or evidence of rust repair. The car is an absolute joy to drive, smooth, stable and consistent, ideal for both weekend cruises around town and highway driving. I’d not hesitate to take this car on any long distance jaunt.

This is an infrequent opportunity to acquire a rare and beautiful example of a 280SE Cabriolet with everything going for it: excellent aesthetically, mechanically solid, rust free and finished in a hard to find and tasteful color combination.
